"I’ve spent nearly 50 years walking the martial path, and every so often you come across an instructor who reminds you what this journey is truly about.
I recently had the privilege of attending a belt test at Ragnarok Martial Arts under Sensei Emma, and I was genuinely impressed.
Her students moved with purpose, understanding, and control at their respective levels. That kind of performance doesn’t come from chance. It comes from guidance that is patient, precise, and rooted in principle. You could see the structure behind the motion… the thought behind the action.
What stood out most to me was her command of the floor. Not through force, but through presence. She led with quiet authority, and her students reflected that in how they carried themselves.
The ceremony itself held strong to the traditions and spirit of American Kenpo… not as a formality, but as a living expression of the art. Respect was not demanded, it was earned and given freely.
My brother Deacon and I were both honored to be invited and to witness what is clearly the result of dedicated instruction and genuine care for her students.
In Kenpo, we often say that techniques are only as strong as the understanding behind them. What I saw was not just technique… but cultivated understanding.
If you are in the Sanford area and seeking instruction that builds both skill and character, you would be well served here.
Well done Ragnarok"
